The thrill of hiking in the mountains is always a different experience. The small hill village of Rikisum can be reached in four hours by car from NJP via Kalimpong-Algara road.

Rikisum is a green village located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the Kalimpong district. There are scattered settlements here, only a handful of families. Flowers of different colors all over Rikisum can be a treat for your eyes. Rows of Dhupi and Pine trees on one side of the hill, and the other side have gone down into the abyss. The roads here are beautiful. At the bend of the hill roads, the magnificent view of the Himalayas will absorb the tiredness of your busy life.

You can avail Padatik Express from Sealdah at 11 pm on any Friday. The train will arrive at New Jalpaiguri station on Saturday morning. From NJP station a four hours drive would take you to this beautiful sleepy hamlet.

The height of Rikisum is abouve 6,300 feet. Those who enjoy offbeat travels, will love this place. It’s a delight for a bird watcher different species of birds are available here. Rikisum is extremely secluded and noise-free. So it would be nice for you to spend two days in this village in leisure.

The local cuisine is sumptuous and tasty, you can enjoy fresh home-cooked local delicacies like Momo, Faley, Thukpa.

The evening view is also a treat to watch, the houses in the hill look beautiful when the lights are on – which is great to see. After your dinner, enjoy the secluded night.

A village walk at dawn is highly recommended. Make sure to visit the old ruined bungalow.
