Day 1

Arrival at Bankura and Transfer to Bishnupur

  • Pickup from Bankura Railway Station (BOA): Arrive in Bankura and proceed directly to Bishnupur (approx. 34 km from Bankura).
  • Check-in: Check into your hotel/homestay in Bishnupur.
  • Bishnupur Historical Monuments Tour:
    Bishnupur is renowned for its terracotta temples, which showcase the architectural brilliance of the Malla dynasty.
    Begin your tour with the following key sites:
  • Rasmancha: The oldest brick temple in Bishnupur, built in 1600 AD by King Bir Hambir, famous for its unique pyramidical roof.
  • Jor Bangla Temple (Keshta Rai Temple): Constructed in 1655 AD by King Raghunath Singh, this temple is known for its classic “do-chala” (two hut-style) architecture and exquisite terracotta panels.
  • Shyamrai Temple (Pancharatna Temple): This temple is adorned with intricate terracotta carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
  • Madan Mohan Temple: Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this temple features some of the most elaborate terracotta work depicting epic stories.
  • Dalmadal Cannon: A massive cannon from the Malla period, symbolizing Bishnupur’s defense against the Maratha invasion.
  • Lunch Break: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring authentic Bengali cuisine.
  • Afternoon Sightseeing:
    Continue your exploration of Bishnupur’s unique attractions:
  • Lalji Temple: Another terracotta temple built in 1658 by King Bir Singh, dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
  • Radheshyam Temple: Built in 1758 AD, this temple has a distinctive “chala” (roof) structure and is known for its simplicity and beauty.
  • Mrinmoyee Temple: An ancient temple housing the idol of Goddess Mrinmoyee, the family deity of the Malla Kings.
  • Evening:
  • Visit the Bishnupur Museum to learn more about the history, art, and culture of the region. Also, you can explore the Bankura Horse market, famous for its terracotta horse figurines.
  • Return to Hotel: Relax for the evening. Night stay at Bishnupur.
Day 2

Transfer to Mukutmanipur

  • Morning: After breakfast, check out and proceed to Mukutmanipur (approx. 55 km, 1.5-hour drive from Bishnupur).
  • Check-in and Refresh: Arrive at your hotel or resort in Mukutmanipur, overlooking the scenic Kangsabati Dam.
  • Sightseeing at Mukutmanipur:
  • Kangsabati Dam: One of the largest earthen dams in India, offering picturesque views of the lake. Walk or take a battery-operated eco-friendly vehicle around the dam.
  • Pareshnath Shiv Mandir: A peaceful temple near the dam, dedicated to Lord Shiva, popular among pilgrims and tourists.
  • Musafirana View Point: A breathtaking viewpoint from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills and lake.
  • Deer Park: Home to deer and other wildlife, this park is a must-visit for nature lovers.
  • Lunch: Enjoy a local meal at the Mukutmanipur Food Court, operated by the Mukutmanipur Development Authority.
  • Afternoon:
  • Boat Ride on Kangsabati River: Experience a serene boat ride during sunset, capturing the stunning reflections of the hills and forests on the water.
  • Explore Tribal Handicrafts: Visit local shops selling tribal handicrafts, including terracotta items, Dokra art, and hand-woven textiles.
  • Optional Visit: If time permits, visit Ambikanagar, a nearby historical and religious town famous for its Jain and Hindu temples, just 15 minutes from Mukutmanipur.
  • Return to Hotel: Relax in the evening at the hotel. Night stay at Mukutmanipur.
Day 3

Departure and Local Exploration

  • Morning: After breakfast, check out from the hotel.
  • Jhilimili and Sutan Forest Exploration (Optional):
    • Jhilimili: A lush green forest area located about 30 km from Mukutmanipur. The forest is known for its rich flora and fauna, offering scenic views and a peaceful environment.
    • Sutan Forest (Baro Mile Jungle): Located nearby, this dense forest is known for its tall Sal, Mahua, and Shimul trees. You can take a walk through the forest and visit various viewpoints for panoramic views of the landscape.
  • Return to Bankura: After the forest visit, head back to Bankura Railway Station (BOA) (approximately 85 km) to catch your return train.
